Fresh off the press and bound to make local car enthusiasts grin: BMW M has confirmed that it won’t be ditching its legendary inline-six and V8 engines anytime soon.
While many rival brands are scaling down with smaller, hybridised engines, BMW M is taking a stand by keeping its high-performance petrol powerplants front and centre.
Big Engines Are Here to Stay
Frank van Meel, head of BMW M, has assured fans that the brand’s twin-turbo inline-six (S58) and V8 engines aren’t going anywhere. These power units are built to last and will continue to deliver the performance and excitement that M fans expect.
According to van Meel, “We want to have a strong base engine anyway. So, for us, going to smaller combustion engines in combination with bigger batteries would not be the right way.”
In plain terms, BMW believes drivers want more than just big power figures. They want the feeling, the sound, and the physical connection to the machine.
Going Electric? Yes, But Not Yet
BMW M knows the electric future is coming, but when it arrives, it won’t be in the form of awkward hybrids that dilute the driving experience. Instead, they’re planning a full switch to proper electric power when the time is right.
Until then, the plan is to stay the course with real-deal engines that sound good, feel alive, and keep the M badge meaningful.
At AutoCloud, we know just how much Mauritians love performance cars with soul. This move from BMW M will surely keep the brand high on the wishlist for serious drivers.
