Renewing your vehicle license, known as the Motor Vehicle Licence (MVL) or declaration, is a mandatory process for all vehicle owners in Mauritius. This guide outlines the steps and requirements to ensure a smooth renewal.

1. Required Documents

Before initiating the renewal process, ensure you have the following original documents:

  • Registration Book – The official document proving vehicle ownership.

  • Fitness Certificate:

    • Required for private cars and motorcycles over 7 years old.

In case of loss, follow these steps:

  1. Report to the Police – Obtain a memo certifying the loss.

  2. Visit the NLTA – Present the police memo, your National Identity Card, and the vehicle's registration book.

  3. Pay the Fee – A fee of Rs. 200 is required for a duplicate MVL.

6. Additional Considerations

  • Document Authenticity – Ensure all documents are original and free from unauthorized alterations.

  • Insurance Coverage – Your insurance must cover the entire MVL renewal period (e.g., for a 1-year renewal, your insurance should be valid for one year).
