Mauritius now has a single digital gateway to public services, and the first thing it does for motorists is put your driving record in your pocket. KOREK! is the rebranded MauPass app, relaunched as a national super app that will bring government services under one login. The digital penalty point system was among the first services to go live. Here is how it works for Mauritian motorists.

Your points, in real time

Once you sign in with MauPass, drivers aged 18 and over can view their licence details and check their penalty points and full history of infractions, drawn straight from the Integrated Driver's Licence Management System. It updates in real time, so there is no more wondering where you stand after a brush with a speed camera or waiting on a letter to find out. Checking takes seconds.

A digital licence, almost

Here is the catch. What the app shows is not a legal driving licence. The wording is explicit: the information is for reference only and does not constitute a digital driving licence at this stage. Viewing your licence is also currently limited to Mauritian citizens, so some resident licence holders will see a "not available" message for now.

That is a genuine shame, because the case for a pocket licence is obvious. The physical Mauritian licence is a bulky, awkward thing, quick to wear at the folds and never quite at home in a wallet. Being able to pull up a valid licence on your phone when asked would be a small everyday convenience with real appeal. KOREK! gets you to the doorstep here, but not yet through it.

Paying fines: not yet, but on the way

If you have gone hunting for a way to settle fines inside the app and come up empty, you are not missing a setting. Online fine payment has been announced as part of the roadmap, with government signalling that KOREK! will eventually become the place to pay, but it is not live in the app yet. For now, the app is for viewing your record, not clearing it.

Worth the download

Even in this early form, KOREK! is a useful habit to build. Keeping an eye on your points is quick, private and no longer tied to an office visit, which matters more than ever under the tighter penalty regime.
