Flic-en-Flac Bypass: Final Works Underway and What Drivers Should Expect

Flic-en-Flac Bypass: Final Works Underway and What Drivers Should Expect

It is finally happening. For anyone who commutes to and from the west, the long-awaited Flic-en-Flac Bypass is in its final stages, with the finishing touches being completed this week. Once opened, the new bypass plans to ease long-standing congestion around Cascavelle and Flic-en-Flac, improving overall connectivity across the region.

However, before we can enjoy smoother drives, there will be a short period of disruption. Like any good upgrade, there’s a bit of short-term pain before long-term gain. As construction teams work to link the new roundabout near Cascavelle Mall to the existing road network, major traffic changes are in effect.

Temporary Road Closure and Diversions

The Ministry of Land Transport has announced that the Flic-en-Flac Road (B34) will be closed in both directions from Monday 10 November to Saturday 15 November. During this period, all traffic heading towards Flic-en-Flac village will be diverted via Cascavelle Mall Road, the Unicity internal road, and Anna Branch Road before rejoining the main route. Traffic leaving Flic-en-Flac will follow the same diversion in reverse to connect back to the Rivière Noire Road (A3).

Motorists should expect significant congestion, especially during morning and evening rush hours. Extra travel time could be as much as 2 hours.

How to Make It Easier

If you have the flexibility to work from home, this week is the perfect time to do so. Reducing unnecessary travel will help ease overall congestion. For families, consider using school buses or shared transport instead of individual drop-offs.

Carpooling is another simple but effective way to cut traffic and fuel costs. If you must be on the road, plan your route carefully and leave earlier than usual.
