Good news for commuters heading to and from the west. The long-awaited Cascavelle roundabout is set to open to traffic on Saturday, 15 November 2025, marking a major step forward in easing congestion around Flic-en-Flac and its surrounding areas.
Following a site visit earlier this week, the Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness, confirmed that construction works on the roundabout will be completed by Friday, 14 November 2025. The visit, conducted between Pierrefonds and Cascavelle, brought together Members of Parliament, officials from the Road Development Authority and other stakeholders to review the project’s progress.
The new Cascavelle roundabout forms part of the wider Flic-en-Flac Bypass project, designed to improve west coast connectivity. The 5.8-kilometre stretch linking Beaux Songes to Cascavelle is on track for completion by December 2025, while the final phase connecting Cascavelle to Flic-en-Flac is expected to be ready by March 2026.
Once the entire project is complete, drivers can expect smoother traffic flow and shorter travel times between Forest Side and Flic-en-Flac, bringing much-needed relief for residents, businesses and holidaymakers alike.
Minister Gunness acknowledged that ongoing works have caused disruption to daily commutes, particularly during peak hours. However, he appealed for patience from road users, assuring that the improvements will deliver long-term benefits to the region’s growing transport demands.
For now, motorists are advised to remain cautious and allow extra travel time as final works wrap up. Once the roundabout officially opens on Saturday, traffic in the Cascavelle area is expected to flow more freely.
As the west coast continues to expand, projects like this mark important progress in strengthening connectivity across Mauritius. AutoCloud.mu will continue to keep drivers informed about major road updates, closures and infrastructure developments, helping Mauritians plan smarter journeys and stay ahead of the traffic.
