Skip the Queue: Traffic Fines Go Online From 30 October

Few things sour a morning quite like a Fixed Penalty Notice. Until now, settling one has usually meant taking time off, finding parking and joining a queue. From 30 October 2026, for many minor offences, you will be able to pay from your phone instead.

What Has Been Approved

At its meeting on Friday 2 October, Cabinet approved the promulgation of the Road Traffic (Amendment of Schedule) (No. 3) Regulations 2026. The new regulations allow fixed fines for road traffic offences that do not carry penalty points to be paid online.

How It Will Work

Payment will run through the Supreme Court portal. The process is short:

  1. Log in with your MauPass account.

  2. Enter your Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) number and your vehicle's registration number.

  3. Pay using a MauCAS QR code app such as Juice or Pop, or by credit or debit card.

There is one condition. Your FPN must already be registered on the Mauritius Police Force system. Until it is, it cannot be paid online.

What Is Not Covered Yet

Phase one is limited to offences without penalty points. Fines that carry points still go to court, where the magistrate decides how many points apply.

Phase two will extend online payment to all road traffic offences, including those with penalty points. It will also cover notices from the 63 speed cameras installed across the island. No date has been given for this second phase.

Where KOREK! Fits In

In our guide to the KOREK! app, online fine payment was a promise. Now it is taking shape, and the same MauPass login you use to check your points gets you in.

The licence is catching up too. From 1 January 2027, the digital driving licence will be legally recognised as equivalent to the physical card.

Easier to Pay, Not Cheaper to Earn

Paying online saves time, but it does not make fines any smaller. The same Road Traffic Act overhaul tightens the rules, with licence suspension for driving under the influence and much tougher fines and prison terms for repeat offenders.

The convenience is welcome. Avoiding the notice in the first place is still the best option.

The Road Ahead

Online payment, a legally valid digital licence and real-time penalty point tracking point the same way. Managing your life as a motorist is moving onto your phone.
